Campers must break camp by 9 a.m. Ground fires are not permitted on Hurd State Park grounds. Pedestal grills are provided in picnic areas. Access is only by paddle craft (canoe/kayak); motorboats are not permitted for river camping at Hurd State Park. Pets are NOT permitted in the camping areas.
Important Notice - No Vehicle Access: All campers and visitors must arrive by canoe or kayak. Vehicle access is not permitted, and there is no overnight parking allowed. Campers must break camp by 9am daily and all personal belongings and camping equipment must be removed from the site. There are no ground fires allowed and fire pits are not provided.

Overview
Description
Hurd State Park was the second state park in the Connecticut State Park system. It affords the visitor scenic views of the Connecticut River, while surrounded by nature. The Hurd State Park Campground is one of several sites designated solely for the use of campers arriving and departing by canoe or kayak. These campsites are accessible and for use by those in canoes or kayaks only. Overnight parking is not permitted, and no campers or visitors are permitted to arrive by vehicle. Pets are NOT permitted in the camping areas. These are primitive campsites. Fees are $5 per person per night. All persons staying overnight MUST be registered campers who arrive by kayak or canoe. Campers must break camp and vacate the site by 9am. If reserving this site for consecutive days, please note the site needs to be completely vacated by 9am, and may be set up again later in the day. No camping equipment or personal belongings may remain on site after 9am.
Geography:
The park is recognized by many boaters by its landmark "split rock", towering above the trees. In the ledges of the split rock are veins of feldspar which was once mined extensively in Connecticut.
Recreation:
Hurd State Park has many trails for foot travel and offers open spaces for ball games and picnics.
Facilities:
There are composting toilets open year round.
