Description

Quaddick State Park was once the site of Thompson's town farm, where elderly residents of the village spent their reflective years. Prior to that, it had been a fishing area of the Nipmuck Indians. Today, it is an ideal setting for picnics, with sprawling areas for field sports and opportunities for both swimming and ice skating, depending on the season.

Alerts and Important Information

Quaddick State Park is open from 8 am to sunset. The main entrance gate is closed after Columbus Day, reopening in the spring.

A permanent alcohol ban is in place at Quaddick State Park, and the possession or consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

Pets on a leash are permitted in the picnic area. Leashes must be no longer than seven feet. Pets are not allowed in the swimming areas or on the beach..

Visitors with Connecticut-registered vehicles are no longer required to pay a parking fee at Connecticut State Parks, since those vehicle owners have paid a small fee as part of their motor vehicle registration. Passport to the Parks Program

Visitors arriving in out-of-state registered vehicles are required to pay a day pass fee when visiting this park between April 1 and October 31. The fee is $15 on Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays or $10 on weekdays. This includes all renters and guests attending a function at the picnic shelter - renting a picnic shelter does not exempt guests from their obligation to pay the parking fee if arriving in out-of-state registered vehicles.

Day passes for out of state visitors should be purchased upon arrival at the park since many parks close to capacity on a frequent basis during the summer. Purchasing a pass in advance does not guarantee entry once a park is closed to capacity. Passes are non-refundable. This park may fill to capacity during heavy weekend and holiday use. When that occurs, the gate will be closed and no additional vehicles will be allowed to enter. Picnic shelter renters and guests should plan to arrive early to avoid being turned away. The rental of a picnic shelter does not guarantee entry when the park is closed due to reaching capacity. CT Park and Forest Fees

Frequent park visitors may wish to consider purchasing a season pass, which allows unlimited entries at all Connecticut State Parks for the calendar year. The season pass is a non-transferable sticker that must be attached firmly to a vehicle's windshield. Season passes may be purchased online at CT DEEP Store - Season Pass

Picnic Shelter Cancellation Policy:

Refund amounts will be determined as follows:
• Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the picnic shelter reservation: full refund less the $9.00 non-refundable reservation fee and $9.00 cancellation fee
• Cancellations made 6 - 29 days prior to the picnic shelter reservation: refund of $145.00 less $9.00 cancellation fee
• Cancellations made within 5 days of the picnic shelter reservation: Not eligible for a refund.

Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance before your arrival and up until 11 months in advance

There is a $9.00 fee to cancel your reservation.

If you cancel 2-7 days prior to your arrival date, you will also be charged one night's use fee.

Note: Neither the park nor the call center can cancel a reservation within 2 days of arrival.

Dissatisfaction due to reasons of weather, site conditions or other natural phenomena will not be considered sufficient cause for granting a refund.
Note: If you feel you have an exception to the cancellation policy, please submit your request in writing to the state park or forest campground where the campsite was rented. Your request should include details about why you feel an exception should be granted. The campground will verify registration and forward the request to the Department for review and consideration.

Description

Geography:

In 1866, the town of Thompson granted the right to flow what was then Kings Pond to a higher level, creating Quaddick Reservoir.ÃÂ The reservoir was heavily used as a source of power and water, for processing textile materials in the plants in Killingly.ÃÂ In 1951, Quaddick was designated a state park, after originally being developed as a Forestry recreation area.

The park entrance is on the left. From the east/Providence, RI: Take Route 44 west. Continue on Route 44 for 1.0 miles, after crossing the Connecticut State Line, to Town Farm Road in East Putnam. Turn right onto Town Farm Road, and proceed north for 2.7 miles. The park entrance is on the left. From the north/Worcester, MA: Take I-290 south to I-395 south, Exit 99. Turn left at the end of the ramp onto Quaddick Road, and proceed south for 3.2 miles to Town Farm Road. Turn left onto Town Farm Road, and proceed north for 1.4 miles. The park entrance is on the left. From the south/Norwich: Take I-395 north, Exit 97. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto Route 44 east, and proceed for 3.3 miles to Town Farm Road in East Putnam.
