Campground Maximum Stay and Mandatory Interim Break : The maximum length of stay at this park is fourteen (14) consecutive days.

Following each stay at any CT State Park or Forest campground, regardless of duration, a five-day interim period is mandatory for all members of the camping party (occupants). All camping equipment must also be removed from the park during the five-day period, and may not be used for other sites or other campers within that campground. Campers may not move to another camping area within the same park or forest during the interim. The camp areas within Pachaug State Forest, Salt Rock State Forest and Hopeville Pond State Park shall be considered one campground.

Alcohol Prohibited: Alcohol has been permanently banned at Hopeville Pond State Park. This includes all areas of the park, including the campground.

Description

Hopeville Pond State Park, which encompasses the Pachaug River, is noted for its glacial geologic features. Historically significant, it was a major fishing ground for the Mohegan Indians. At low water the stone weirs, constructed by the Indians at angles from the river banks, are still visible. These weirs directed water flow as well as eels, shad, and other fish toward the center of the stream where the Indians placed baskets to trap them. Now, the park is known for its water sports opportunities, the most popular of which remains fishing.

CAMPING INFORMATION

PETS AND ALCOHOL ARE PROHIBITED AT THIS CAMPGROUND.

Camping reservations are accepted 11 months in advance until the day prior to arrival. For campsites, a two-night minimum is required for all advance reservations, except when making a reservation within 3 days of arrival, when making a one-night reservation is allowed. A 3-night minimum is required for all cabin reservations.

The maximum length of stay at this campground is 14 (fourteen) consecutive days. Following a reservation/stay of any length, all members of your camping party and your camping equipment must leave the park for 5 days before you can return.

Camping Reservation Freeze Policy:Any reservation with a departure date that is more than 11 months from today cannot be changed or cancelled for 18 days after the reservation was made for an inland campground and 25 days for sites at Hammonasset and Rocky Neck.

Check in time for campsites is from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Campers arriving after 10:00 p.m. will be required to set up in a temporary stopover area until the following morning. Check-in for cabins does not begin until 2:00 p.m. on the day of arrival. Cabin check-out time is by 11:00 a.m. on the day of departure.

Firewood: In an effort to protect Connecticut's forests from the introduction and spread of destructive insect pests - in particular the emerald ash borer and Asian long-horned beetle - we are taking the following action:

Prohibiting the bringing of firewood into state of Connecticut campgrounds and state parks from other states. As an alternative, firewood can be either purchased at the camp stores within the state campgrounds or at local retail sellers of firewood.

We greatly appreciate the public's assistance in helping to protect the state's natural resources and apologizes for any inconvenience this initiative may cause.

Reservation Change Policy

Reservation changes occurring prior to check-in must be requested and processed through Reserve America online or by phone at 1-877-668-2267. Campground staff cannot make any changes to your reservation prior to check-in.

For all reservation changes, including site/date changes:

A $9.00 reservation change fee will apply to any date or site changes prior to checking in at the campsite.

Customer and/or primary occupant name changes, as well as park-to-park transfers, are not permitted. The reservation will need to be cancelled and a new reservation with the name change is needed, and all applicable reservation and cancellation fees will be charged.

Changing sites at the campground after check-in is not guaranteed but may be possible depending on site availability. Campground staff can assist with site changes after check-in on the day of arrival, but cannot process any changes to reservations prior to check-in.

CT Cancellation Policy

Customers must contact Reserve America online or by phone at 1-877-668-2267 for all cancellations and refunds requested up to 2 days prior to arrival. Within 2 days of arrival, no refund will be issued. Campground staff cannot process cancellations or issue refunds.

For cancellations, refund amounts will be determined by the following:

More than 7 days prior to scheduled arrival – Reserve America will issue a full refund minus reservation fee ($9)*

Between 2-7 days prior to scheduled arrival – Reserve America will issue a full refund minus reservation fee ($9) and cost of one night of camping*

Less than 2 days prior to scheduled arrival – no refunds will be issued.

*A $9 cancellation fee also applies to all refunds issued by Reserve America.

Description

Geography:

Hopeville Pond State Park consists of 544 acres and is located in Griswold, CT. Hopeville Pond was once a woolen mill pond. The site's suitability for recreational activities was recognized in the 1930's when the Federal Government purchased considerable acreage in Eastern Connecticut. These lands were managed by the Civilian Conservation Corps with evidence of much of the work done by the CCC still visible in the pine plantations, forest roads, and fire control ponds. Most of these federally purchased lands now comprise portions of the nearby Pachaug State Forest.

Activities include picnicking, freshwater fishing, swimming, boating, field sports, a nature trail, hiking, and bicycling.

Hopeville Pond Campground offers 80 sites in a wooded setting near the pond. Additional park facilities include a dumping station, boat launch ramp, concessions, drinking water, and showers.
