Tours can accommodate a maximum of 18 visitors at a time only, and tour tickets often sell out in advance.Tickets are required for castle entry for all visitors, including those for whom there is no fee i.e. Charter Oak, DAV and Library Pass holders, as well as for all children ages 5 and under. Description: Gillette Castle is the former home of William Gillette, most famous for his acting role portraying Sherlock Holmes. The public river camping sites are on the grounds of his 24 room mansion, reminiscent of a medieval castle.Important Information: 2026 Gillette Castle Tour Schedule Peak Season Tours - Ticket sales begin April 1, 2026 Peak season tours are offered daily between Saturday, May 23, 2026 - Monday, September 7, 2026. Tours are held every 15 minutes between 10 am - 4 pm. Fall Season Tours - Ticket sales begin April 1, 2026 Fall season tours are offered on weekends and holidays from Labor Day to Columbus Day. Tours are held every 15 minutes between 10 am - 4 pm. Holiday Tours - Ticket sales begin September 8, 2026 Holiday tours are offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tours are held every 15 minutes between 10 am - 3:30 pm. . Please note that only the first floor of Gillette Castle is ADA accessible. Tour tickets are required for castle entry, but visitors are welcome to view the exterior of the castle and enjoy the park grounds without a tour ticket. The park grounds and restrooms are open daily from 8am - sunset year round. Complimentary Admission Pass Holders (Charter Oak, DAV & Library Pass) MUST present their pass with their admission ticket to receive entry into the castle. Bus Trips Groups visiting by bus are welcome during the peak season (Memorial Day to Labor Day) on weekdays mornings at 9:00 am only. A bus permit is required and must be reserved at least two weeks in advance. Bus permits can be reserved by phone at 1-877-668-2267.
